I DECLARATION OF INTEREST

No declarations of interest were made.

II ST SAVIOURS CAR PARK SAFETY TRIP RAIL

There was submitted Agenda Note AN1-2014 advising the Committee that as part of the improvements to the site of the former St Saviour's School which was being developed as sports pitches, it was proposed to erect a trip rail with associated boom arms around the car park. There had been a number of recent problems with vehicles driving across and parking on the grassed areas. This had led to significant damage to the grass and, in extreme cases, vehicles becoming stuck.

The Committee agreed that the proposed improvements be approved and that the Director of Environment be instructed to undertake these works.

The Director of Corporate Services advised that the above works amounting to 12,943 could be met from allowances within the Environment Department's Capital Budget 2013/2014.

III INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT REPAIRS 2013/2014

There was submitted Agenda Note AN3-2014 advising the Committee that following a review of the existing cemeteries across the city, a number of infrastructure improvement works had been identified and it was proposed to prioritise works this year in Balgay Cemetery. The proposed works would be undertaken at a cost of 49,272 and comprised:-

- structural rebuilding and repairs to sections of masonry walls;

- improvement works to drainage gullies;

- felling, pruning and planting of trees to repair previous storm damage;

- provision of new information boards and additional seating; and

- relocation of existing operational dump and associated landscaping improvements.

Elements of the works to be undertaken were necessary to ensure public safety and to ensure the fabric of the cemetery was maintained. In addition, the above works would also assist in the future maintenance and operation of the cemetery.

The Director of Corporate Services advised that the above costs could be met from allowances Infrastructure Improvements within the Environment Department's capital budget 2013/2014.

The Committee approved the proposals detailed and agreed that the Director of Environment be authorised to undertake these works.

Craig MELVILLE, Convener.
