I DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

 

Councillor Dawson and Bailie Borthwick declared a non-financial interest by virtue of a family member being a serving Police Officer.

 

II VALEDICTORY

 

The Convener paid tribute to Dave Stapley of Scottish Fire and Rescue who was retiring and thanked him for services rendered by him as Local Area Manager.

 

The Convener also paid tribute to Chief Inspector Conrad Trickett who was to take up responsibility for Emergency Events and Resilience Planning across the North of Scotland.

 

III SCOTTISH POLICE AUTHORITY

 

Iain Whyte, Scottish Police Authority Board Member, gave an update to members on the work of the Scottish Police Authority.

 

Members were advised that the Scottish Police Authority was created to:-

 

- set strategic direction for policing and drive sustainable reform and improvement.

- promote the policing principles and policing by consent.

- scrutinise policing, ensuring decisions were accountable.

- take decisions on policy, processes, people and the pounds to ensure policing delivers the best service possible at the best value.

- provide forensic services to policing and the Crown Office to deliver justice.

- administer independent custody visiting across Scotland to protect Human Rights.

 

Key responsibilities of the Scottish Police Authority included:-

 

- reform of policing.

- improve policing performance.

- build confidence in policing.

- promote accountability in policing.

 

A copy of Mr Whytes presentation had been circulated to members.

 

Thereafter, the Convener thanked Mr Whyte for his interesting and informative presentation.

 

IV SCOTTISH FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE QUARTERLY PERFORMANCE REPORT 1ST JULY, 2014 - 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2014

 

There was submitted Report No 430-2014 by Area Manager Stapley providing information for the Committee regarding the performance of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service against the priorities, outcomes and performance indicators detailed within the Local Fire and Rescue Plan for Dundee 2014/2017 to facilitate local scrutiny.

 

The Committee agreed to note, scrutinise and question the content of the report.

 

V CITY OF DUNDEE LOCAL POLICING AREA - PERFORMANCE RESULTS - 1ST JULY, 2014 TO 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2014

 

There was submitted Report No 435-2014 by Chief Superintendent Smith for the Committees information.

 

The Committee agreed to note the content of the operational report.
