Social Work And Health Committee - 11/09/2000

At a SPECIAL MEETING of the SOCIAL WORK COMMITTEE held at Dundee on 11th September, 2000.

Present:-

The minute of meeting of this Committee of 21st August, 2000 was held as read.

Unless marked thus * all items stand delegated.

The Convener agreed that the undernoted item be considered as a matter of urgency in terms of Standing Order No 51(3)(b) in view of the timescales involved.

I CHILD PROTECTION ISSUES

There was submitted Report No 606-2000 by the Chief Executive bringing members up to date on the position with regard to Child Protection issues and requesting them to agree recommendations for action.

After discussion, the Committee approved the following proposals:-

(i)that approval be given to the recommendations in the Chief Executive's report;

(ii)that an independent review be established;

(iii)that a report be submitted to the next meeting of the Social Work Committee on the remit of the review and proposals for who/or what body should be appointed to conduct the review; and

(iv)that, at the conclusion of the review and following on from its recommendations, an all party Working Group be established to take forward these recommendations.
