The minute of meeting of this Committee of 21st August, 2000 was held as read.

I MUSIC PLUS - "SOUNDBASE MIXING IT"

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 562-2000 advising members on the programme for the above activity.

 

The Committee noted the planned programme.

 

II BROUGHTY CASTLE - OPENING HOURS

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 565-2000 requesting approval for changes to the opening hours at Broughty Castle on a trial basis commencing 9th October, 2000 when the facility started its winter opening hours.

 

The Committee agreed to the proposed changes.

 

III GRANTS TO NATIONAL ORGANISATIONS AND OTHER OUTSIDE BODIES

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 564-2000 seeking approval to award a grant of 250 as detailed in the Report.

 

The Committee authorised payment.

 

IV THE NATIONAL CULTURAL STRATEGY

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 611-2000 requesting consideration of the National Cultural Strategy, a proposed response from the City Council and proposals to develop a local cultural strategy for Dundee.

 

The Committee (a) noted the publication of the National Cultural Strategy, (b) agreed Dundee City Council's response at Section 6.2 of the Report and remitted to the Director of Arts and Heritage to bring this to the attention of the Scottish Executive and the Scottish Arts Council, (c) remitted to the Director of Arts and Heritgage to work with the local Theatre community to develop a campaign supporting the National Theatre's location in Dundee, and (d) agreed to the establishment of a short-life multi-departmental working group to develop a local cultural strategy as outlined at Section 6.3 of the Report.

 

V McMANUS GALLERIES

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 561-2000 outlining the current position regarding the Galleries and the potential for development.

 

The Committee noted the current position outlined in the Report and remitted to the Director of Arts and Heritage to develop a Heritage Lottery Fund application as outlined in the Report and to report back to this Committee prior to submission.

 

VI DUNDEE HERITAGE TRUST AND DUNDEE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE LIMITED

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage reported that the City Council was currently represented on both the Trust and operating company responsible for Discovery Point, Verdant Works and St Mary's Tower by the Convener.

 

Following a revue of current representation on Arts and Heritage Organisations and in light of wider advice regarding elected member representation and outside bodies, he proposed that the Convener remain the City Council's representative on Dundee Heritage Trust and that he himself replace the Convener on Dundee Industrial Heritage Limited.

 

The Committee agreed to recommend these changes in representation to the City Council.
