The Committee was advised that further external funding had been secured and accordingly agreed that the post be extended until 31st March 2002 for 3 hours per week at a grade of AP3 (15,240-16,770).

III SUPPORT SERVICES DEPARTMENT - ENGAGEMENT IN OTHER REMUNERATIVE EMPLOYMENT

It was reported that a Solicitor in the Support Services Department had submitted a request to the Director of Support Services for consent to take up a judicial appointment to the Appeals Service initially for a period of one year. This appointment would involve acting as Chairman of Social Security and Disability Appeal Tribunals and might include other Tribunals such Medical Appeal and Child Support.

The Committee agreed that permission be granted subject to the conditions that:-

a) in view of staff absences on maternity leave and pressure of work within the Legal Division the approval would initially be for a maximum of 6 days per annum, to be taken using annual leave and that any increase above this commitment would require the specific approval of the Director of Support Services;

b) the authority be subject to the needs of the Support Services Department, and all absences to undertake the appointment would require prior agreement with management to take account of office commitments; and

c) the permission would be subject to review in the event of any change in the needs of the Support Services Department.

JOHN LETFORD, Convener.
