I EDUCATION DEPARTMENT RECREATIONAL SWIMMING POLICY

 

There was submitted Report No. 265-2000 by the Director of Education seeking approval to change the existing policy of no swimming on school trips/excursions outwith Dundee to a policy that allows swimming where laid down criteria are met.

 

The Committee agreed to note the contents of the report and approved the new policy.

 

II DUNDEE EARLY YEARS AND CHILD CARE PLAN 2000/2003

 

There was submitted Joint Report No. 264-2000 by the Directors of Education, Social Work and Neighbourhood Resources and Development seeking approval for final publication and dissemination of the Dundee Early Years and Childcare Plan 2000 - 2003.

 

The Committee agreed to:-

 

(a)approve the contents of the Dundee Early Years and Childcare Plan.

 

(b)remit the Director of Education to publish and disseminate the Plan to all organisations and agencies in Dundee with an interest in early years, childcare and family support services.

 

III TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No. 181-2000 by the City Architectural Services Officer giving details of tenders received and requesting a decision on acceptance thereof.

 

The Committee approved acceptance of the offer received from Dundee Contract Services for the re-roofing of the Music Block at Harris Academy for the sum of 23,700 together with allowances of 4,270, giving a total amount of 27,970.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the public and press be excluded during consideration of the undernoted item on the grounds that it involved the likely disclosure of information which is exempt in terms of paragraph 5 of Schedule 7A of the Act.

 

IV REQUEST FOR EDUCATION AT HOME

 

There was submitted Report No. 266-2000 by the Director of Education seeking approval for the provision of education at home for a Dundee pupil of secondary school age.

 

The Committee agreed to:-

 

(a) approve the proposal for education at home and

 

(b) instruct the Director of Education to monitor the child's progress at regular intervals.
