TRADING STANDARDS WARNS AGAINST MATTRESS SCAM
Trading Standards warn residents to be on their guard against a mattress scam operating in the city.
A man in an unmarked white van has been selling mattresses to people on the streets of the Hilltown area.
Although offered as ‘bargain’ products, goods offered for sale in this way may be of inferior quality and grossly overpriced.
Householders are encouraged to look out for others, especially the vulnerable.
Community Safety and Public Protection Convener Councillor Alan Ross said: “Scam prevention and protecting consumers is one of our priorities.
“Locally we are trying to protect consumers in vulnerable situations within our communities and safeguard them from future harm.
“Anyone offered a seemingly cheap mattress on the street should not buy one.”
It is of particular concern that in this instance the seller took the elderly purchaser in his van to get money from a cashpoint.
If anyone has any information that may help identify the seller of you have purchased one and have concerns then please contact Dundee Trading Standards on 01382 436265.
