Back to School Arrangements Confirmed06/07/20
Dundee schools will reopen to pupils on a phased basis from Wednesday August 12, with full-time lessons beginning from Monday August 17, if it safe to do so.
The city council is announcing the arrangements, which have been agreed with political leaders and trade unions, which may yet be subject to change depending on scientific advice.
The Deputy First Minister is due to make an announcement on or around July 30 about the situation.
If the return goes ahead, Monday August 10 and Tuesday August 11 will be in service days for staff only at schools.
Over the following three days, pupils will return to schools on a phased basis as transitions continue and induction back into the buildings take place.
Full-time teaching for all pupils will resume on Monday August 17.
Safety measures will be in place in all schools for the protection of staff and pupils. More details on these arrangements, as well as issues like transport, will be issued when details are confirmed.
Children and families service convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: “Everyone in Dundee can play a part in helping ensure that schools can reopen by continuing to take action to prevent coronavirus spreading. There has been tremendous responsibility shown so far and I am sure that will continue as we ease our way out of lockdown.
“After what will have been five months out of school for pupils, we will look to stagger entry over the first three days and ensure that all young people and staff are safe.
“We will make sure families get the latest information about this when we are able to release it.”
To allow for two in service days on August 10 and 11, the council has moved the previously agreed days on Monday August 17 and Thursday November 12.
The move was agreed by the leaders of the political groups on Dundee City Council under essential business arrangements.
