Community centres to reopen

Dundee City Council community centres will reopen to the public on Monday, September 14.

The community centres at Menzieshill, Charleston, Ardler, Kirkton, HilltownFinmill and Douglas have all been prepared for a safe reopening in line with the Scottish Government’s route map out of lockdown and the Council’s recovery plans.

The reopening has been carefully planned with a range of measures in place to keep staff and service users safe and prevent the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Centre opening hours will 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Centre programmes have been amended and attendance at these programmes must be pre-booked by telephone or email.

Those attending the centres will be required to provide contact details as part of the national contact tracing programme.

Visitors will be required to wear a face covering, except in group rooms where a 2m distance can be maintained or where an individual exemption applies.

As a result of these measures, and in line with the Government guidance issued this week, the limit of six people from two households for social gatherings does not apply to community centre activities. However, there will be reduced capacity to allow for social distancing.

Neighbourhood Services convener Councillor Anne Rendall said: “This is another important milestone as we move carefully through the phases of the route map out of lockdown.

“We know how much communities will welcome the opening of these centres and the restarting of the programmes that they provide.

“A lot of work has gone into preparing for the safe opening of the centres, including risk assessments, enhanced cleaning and the provision of additional sanitising stations.

“It’s important to stress that the centres and their programmes will look a little different for the time being, in order to keep our staff and the public safe.

“I would urge all users to do their bit too – please follow all the hygiene guidance and one-way systems, book in advance and do not attend if you have any symptoms of Coronavirus.”

Centre opening will be subject to any changes in Government guidance or local restrictions. Please visit the council website for the latest updates.
