PEOPLE looking for a career in the hospitality industry are being offered a free boost to their chances with a series of on-line training and engagement opportunities.

Dundee City Council’s Discover Work team is re-running its successful Hospitality Training Academy in conjunction with 10 local employers that has already seen people get jobs in the sector.

Mark Flynn, convener of the council’s city development committee said: “With coronavirus restrictions easing and hospitality getting ready to fully re-open there are lots of opportunities right now for people to get a job in the sector.

“The most recent training academy helped employers engage with people looking for a career in hospitality and allowed those who wanted to know more about what it would be like to get themselves clued-up.”

From Monday August 2 until the Friday of that week there will be training towards an accredited qualification, help with mindset and motivation, work placement opportunities and employer talks and demonstrations.

Local employers already signed up to support the event include Malmaison, Kilted Kangaroo, Sleeperz, The Selkie and Apex.

Kelly Fairweather of The Selkie said: “We are really excited to take part in a programme that recognises hospitality and all it has to offer.

“Dundee has become a destination city and we want to show it at its best with brilliant staff who are skilled, happy and work and paid fairly. We want hospitality to become a passion for people and a place they want to work."

Manny Baber of Sleeperz Hotel, added:  "The Hospitality Academy will be a great opportunity for people in Dundee looking to start a career in the sector. Not only will it provide training in key skills for the sector, but myself and other local employers will be delivering talks to all those involved to dispel myths around hospitality and highlight career opportunities.

“As a sector we have been struggling to recruit locally, but hopefully those who attend the academy will be able to find new jobs with the employers working with Discover Work.”
