HOW PUBLIC spaces are used, with a particular focus on women’s safety, will be under the spotlight next week in the heart of Dundee.

Taking Space will animate City Square with fun activities, thought-provoking conservations and entertainment.

Lynne Short Dundee City Council’s spokesperson on equalities said: “This is an event which not only celebrates the voices of women, but has created an engaging environment where what they say will be listened to.

“I am proud to live in a city where women are not afraid to speak up and use their voices to help create change.

“The Taking Space event will help to do that, and while there is fun, laughter and entertainment to be had, there is a serious message underlying it.”

Taking Space will occupy City Square from Friday (October 22) to Sunday (October 24) filling it with family activities including games and a garden chill, Women’s Trail walk, play activities, bubbles and three engagement pods to consider questions around our public spaces.

Designed by Eilish Victoria and Hidden Route theatre company, it will also include conversations facilitated by Hayley Blakeman about how women and girls engage with public spaces and how safe they feel to do so.

All taking place under a large cover there will also be free craft activities on Friday and Saturday hosted by the Dundee Violence Against Women Partnership and on Saturday and Sunday Dundee Science Centre will be on hand with their 'Rigamajig' building pieces and Science @ home kits. Throughout the event there will be a chance to take a seat and listen to the Taking Space the audio play.
