A new survey has been launched to shape the council’s free period poverty service.

Since October 2019 the council have been supplying free period products in over 50 communities’ premises in Dundee, ranging from community centres and libraries to health centres.  This is in addition to free period products being available in schools since 2018.

In response to lockdown a home delivery service was established and is still running and delivered by our partner organisation Hey Girls.

The Free Period Products Scotland Act puts a legal requirement on local authorities to ensure anyone who needs period products can get them for free.

In line with this act, the council is launching this consultation to ensure people are happy with current arrangements and give people the opportunity to give feedback and recommend any improvements to the service.

This consolation will run along side one for Dundee schools, where we will be ensuring that the arrangements meet our young people’s needs, targeting those who need to use free products, or will need to in the future, or those collect products on behalf of others.

The Children and Families Committee will be given an update on the free provision of period products in schools on Monday December 6.

Fairness and Equalities Spokesperson Councillor Lynne Short said: “It’s great that free period products are widely available for anyone who needs them.

“Currently we have a wide range of period products in buildings across the council estate and have a home delivery service.

“We want people’s views to make sure this current arrangement works for them and give us their thoughts so we can make the service even better, this includes telling us how and where they want products and what products they would like to see more of.

“Our ambition is that free period products are easily accessible to everyone in the city, so please do give us your feedback.”
