Western Gateway Primary Consultation Proposals

Consultation over proposals for a new primary school to serve the Western Gateway area of Dundee could be set to go ahead.

The children and families services committee is being asked to approve the exercise as part of a move to submit a “robust application” to the Scottish Government for funding.

Statutory consultation is needed to establish a new primary, as well as variation of admission arrangements, as it is necessary to revise the existing catchment area of Ardler Primary School to form the catchment area of the proposed new school.

The council approved in principle the construction of a new school last year.

Consultation would take place between Monday August 22 and Friday September 30.

A final decision would be taken by the children and families services committee next January following the publication of reports reflecting on the consultation and comments from Education Scotland.

The council has included £16 million its capital plan based on the new school opening in August 2026.

Children and families convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: “This is an important time in this project, and I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in the consultation.

“Their views will inform a vital part of the process and I look forward to seeing the reports which follow.

“This will help us to put together a strong case for funding to the Scottish Government.”

The children and families services committee meet on Monday June 27.
