Please note that timings are approximate

People are being invited to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen as the Royal cortege passes through Dundee tomorrow (Sunday).

The cortege is scheduled to make its way from Balmoral to Edinburgh, then on to London for the state funeral.

The cortege will arrive at the Dundee boundary around 2pm, travelling down the A90 at Powrie Brae before turning right at the Forfar Road junction and proceeding west to the Swallow roundabout on the Kingsway.

Civic dignitaries from across Tayside and Fife will pay their own respects from a dais just prior to the cortege leaving the city.

There will be rolling road closures along the route. Other roads in the area are expected to be significantly affected as large numbers of people from across Dundee and beyond come to pay their respects.

Those coming to the area by car should allow plenty of time to travel and park within the designated areas. Please try to share lifts with friends, family and neighbours wherever possible.

The following traffic management arrangements are in place for people arriving from outwith the city. People are urged to follow these routes and any instructions given by stewards and police on the day:

  • FROM THE SOUTH: Vehicles will be routed across the Tay Road Bridge to the Swallow roundabout, then up the Kingsway to parking at Camperdown Park.
  • FROM THE WEST: Traffic at the Swallow roundabout will be taken east on the Kingsway to Camperdown Park.
  • FROM THE NORTH-WEST: Vehicles will be routed via Coupar Angus Road to parking at Camperdown Park.
  • FROM THE EAST: Vehicles coming along A92 Arbroath Road will be routed up the Kingsway to the Pitkerro junction, then via Clepington Road to a temporary facility at Fairmuir Park.
  • FROM THE NORTH: Drivers will be routed from the foot of Powrie Brae along Claverhouse Road then south on Old Glamis Road to playing fields opposite Dundee & Angus College.
  • WITHIN DUNDEE: Residents should use the nearest car park from those listed above. However, given the volume of traffic expected, and the limited availability of parking, we would encourage local people to walk to the route or use public transport wherever possible.

A limited amount of disabled parking will be made available at Kinnoull Road, Dunsinane Industrial Estate.

Drivers are urged to park only where it is safe to do so, and to respect the needs of residents and businesses to access their premises.

Once at the route itself, we ask that everyone paying their respects consider the safety of themselves and those around them at all times and stand in a safe location. Stewards and police will assist with this, and will also direct people to safe places to cross the carriageway.

For safety reasons, do not throw flowers on the road or towards the cortege.

Please note that before and after the movement of the vehicles the route remains open and fully operational and normal safety processes apply.

The northbound carriageway of the Kingsway and A90 will be open throughout, as will minor residential roads onto the northbound carriageway of the Kingsway between Riverside Drive and Forfar Road.

Minor residential roads onto the southbound carriageway of the Kingsway between Forfar Road and Riverside Drive will be closed from mid-morning to late afternoon on Sunday.

Appropriate signage will be in place.

Old Glamis Road Roundabout, Strathmartine Road Roundabout, Kings Cross Road Roundabout, Coupar Angus Road Roundabout, Myrekirk Road Roundabout and eastbound carriageway of the Kingsway will remain open but may be closed at short notice, at the discretion of senior officers within Police Scotland.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the travelling public, but significant delays are expected. Public transport is also likely to be significantly affected.

Those who require to travel between the Perth area and points north of Forfar, or vice versa, are encouraged to consider alternative routes via Coupar Angus, or time their journeys to avoid the afternoon period where possible.
