Community projects across Dundee to help people keep warm this winter have already been allocated over £25,000 from a city fund.

And a call is going out for groups to apply for support if they think they have an initiative that can assist those hit hardest by the cost of living crisis.

Community Regeneration Forums from across Dundee have allocated over £25,000 from the Dundee Partnership’s Community Regeneration Fund to support warm spaces for winter.

The Community Regeneration Fund is allocated to Community Regeneration forums each year by Dundee City Council.

Initiatives include cinema nights, family meals, funding to open community facilities evenings and weekends and transportation to get people around different activities.

Dundee Partnership chair and city council leader John Alexander explained: “I am increasingly concerned about the reality of this crisis as the cold weather starts to come in.

“The community regeneration fund is open for applications for projects that can help people and I would encourage groups to apply as soon as possible.

“Although we are not talking about huge sums, it is funding that could support vital interventions at a neighbourhood level for people who are really struggling.”

Murray Webster from Coldside Community Forum said: “The current cost of living crisis that is now impacting communities across the city and will likely continue for some time needs urgent action.

“We are pleased to announce a number of projects have been awarded funding which will allow them to offer services and help to local residents, with advice, food and provide cosy spaces to help them during this difficult time.

“These projects alone will not solve the problem but are part of the work being carried out across the city.”

The allocations are already in for the next round of funding in November and it is anticipated more grants will be allocated to support Dundee’s communities.  Any groups wishing to apply can go here for more information.
