Living Wage Week 2022

Dundee City Council is once again celebrating Living Wage Week.

Living Wage Week is a campaign dedicated to celebrating the Living Wage movement and looks to encourage businesses to become accredited Living Wage employers.

This year the number of accredited employers in the city grew to over 100 which means thousands of people working in Dundee are being paid the real Living Wage.

Also at this year’s Living Wage Champion Awards, the Dundee Living Wage Action Group was recognised for its leadership in the 2021 Living Wage Week.

The Living Wage Awards 2022 take place on Thursday 17 November and two Dundee based employers, Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce and The Circle, are nominated for awards.

These positive milestones are an encouraging reminder of the impact Living Wage Week can have.

During the week members of the Living Wage Action Group will be visiting various living wage accredited businesses thanking them for helping to make Dundee a living wage city.

There will also be an information event held at The Boomerang Centre on Wednesday 16 November between 1-3pm for local businesses to talk about the Living Wage, learn how to become accredited and find out who to contact for advice.

With support from Lord Provost Bill Campbell, the Living Wage flag will also be waved from the council chambers for the duration of the week.

Councillor Mark Flynn, Convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “I am incredibly proud of all the work that is happening to make Dundee a Living Wage city and it is great to hear that the council is supporting Living Wage Week again this year. I am looking forward to the activities planned and to see the positive news from the week.

“We are living through some challenging times, especially with the cost of living crisis, so it is vital that we support our local employers in the journey to becoming living wage accredited.

“I would encourage any business out there thinking of becoming accredited to get in touch or attend any information event. The Living Wage Action Group is here and ready to help and support you to become a Living Wage accredited employer.”
