 PROGRESS on a number of active travel projects across the city has been boosted after a six-figure funding pledge.

Almost £200,000 has been secured from SUSTRANS for Dundee City Council to develop feasibility studies, stakeholder engagement and concept design work on four schemes.

Welcoming the funding Mark Flynn, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “The continued importance of developing more active ways of getting around the city has been recognised at a national level with the approval of these funding packages.

“The ambitious and unparalleled investment in these types of projects in Dundee is starting to become evident on the ground and this money will help us to make even more progress on supporting cycling and other forms of active travel for residents.”

Funding to develop projects has been secured at:

  • Western Gateway, where £54,000 will help take options already identified at the preliminary feasibility stage forward to concept design;
  • East End Campus where a feasibility study and concept design of options to improve the current active travel infrastructure will receive £75,000;
  • Bell Street where £52,000 will go towards developing options for improved active travel infrastructure and placemaking associated with the proposed ‘Bell Street Sustainable Transport Hub’ and Active Freeway links; and
  • Ninewells where stakeholder engagement and options for improving active travel infrastructure within and adjacent to Ninewells Hospital will be backed by £12,000.

Cllr Flynn added: “There are a number of funding bids still to be decided and I am hopeful that early in the New Year we will see yet more money being granted to the city to continue the excellent progress we’re already making.”
