Green Waste Shredder purchase plans

Proposals will be put to Councillors for the purchase of a Green Waste Shredder giving greater flexibility to operations at the Riverside Composting facility.
Currently, the Council processes organic waste from kerbside collections, garden waste from recycling centres and third-party green waste by hiring in the necessary equipment.
The plans outlined will deliver an in-house service, using existing staff resource to carry out the shredding and compost process, which would provide a revenue saving.
Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Committee Convener Heather Anderson said: “The purchase of a Green Waste Shredder for the city’s Riverside Composting facility will grant the Council more control and flexibility in delivering the composting service, it will also allow significant revenue savings to be achieved, so it’s a great investment.
“The new equipment would contribute to the city’s ongoing recycling initiatives which are an important part of our aims in tackling climate change and reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2045.”
If approval is granted, delivery of the green waste shredder would be completed by December 2023.
