Community Wellbeing Centre - Hope Point - Open

A new community wellbeing centre to support people experiencing emotional distress in Dundee has opened its doors to the public.
Named ‘Hope Point, Dundee Wellbeing Support’, the facility will be open day and night to help people who are struggling to see a way ahead in life and need immediate access to support.
People can phone, text, or be supported face to face. The message is clear: There is always help. There is always hope.
Hope Point is located at 4 South Ward Road, and you can call 0800 955 0008 or text 01382 604 123.
The name for the centre was chosen by a panel which considered all the suggestions that had been made by stakeholders.
Dundee City Council’s Health and Social Care Care Spokesperson Councillor Ken Lynn said: “I am delighted that Hope Point is up and running helping people in the city who need mental health support.
“It has long been a desire of mine to ensure that the city has a facility like this to help people in distress and it is great to see it functioning.
“I want to thank all the partners who have worked incredibly hard to make this place a reality and who continue to go above and beyond to ensure that it will be a success.”
Penumbra Mental Health is a pioneering charity providing dedicated services for people experiencing mild to serious and enduring mental ill health.
Penumbra’s Senior Service Manager Emma Wilson said: “We’re pleased to be working alongside local campaigners and partners to bring this service to Dundee. We know that emotional distress can look different for each person, so if someone is feeling overwhelmed with life events we’re available day and night through our drop in and on our freephone support line.
When people speak to us, they can expect a compassionate listening ear and we’ll also support each person to plan their next steps safely. It’s really important to us that the service has been informed by the lived experiences of local campaigners, and that many of our team members are employed in peer roles. It means we have an understanding of what someone might be going through and can be that point of kindness for anyone experiencing overwhelming feelings.”
Phil Welsh - Not in Vain for Lee, said: “Since Lee’s death 6 years ago we ( Lesley and Kirsty) have campaigned robustly to get a cwc open! Being a 24 hour non referral resource will make such a difference when people are at the pinnacle of crisis. Having access to support outwith ‘office hours!’ Will mean so much to so many who are struggling!
“We would like to thank the team who have worked so hard in getting the centre up and running and all the individuals who have supported our campaign over the last few years.”
Fiona Morrison, Hillcrest Deputy Chief Executive, said “Hillcrest Futures is delighted to welcome Hope Point to the building. We are currently providing services from the city centre location, including recovery groups and tenancy support, so look forward to working in partnership to support the people of Dundee in a way that suits their needs.”
