Celebration Held to Honour City's Young Volunteers

A celebration event to honour the city's young volunteers has been held.
The young volunteers have given up so much of their time to support a range of projects delivered by Dundee City Council’s Community Learning and Development Youth Team, including evening diversionary, holiday and children's programmes.
These range from preparing meals, setting up and delivering activities, supporting and encouraging other young people to take part and consulting with young people on programme content.
In addition, this event will also celebrate Healthy Transition's peer educators from Craigie High School, Braveview Academy, and Grove Academy.
Healthy Transitions peer educators meet weekly after school to complete the healthy transitions training programme, which they then deliver to P7 pupils. This supports P7's with their transition to their secondary school.
Furthermore, volunteers from Positive Minds will be recognised. This peer-led programme sees young people volunteer to attend a weekly training programme in their own time. This programme equips the peer educators with mental health and wellbeing strategies that they then deliver to other young people through community and school groups.
Children, Families and Communities Convener Stewart Hunter said: "The contribution these volunteers have made to supporting their local community is incredible.
"This event allows us the opportunity to recognise the contribution these volunteers make, whether that’s supporting pupils to transition to secondary school, preparing meals and helping develop wellbeing strategies.
"I want to thank them all for taking the time out of their day to support local causes and help those around them."
