Council Plan Progress Report
An update on the progress that has been made to improve life for people in Dundee will be considered by councillors on Monday June 23.
The City Governance Committee is to look in detail at the third annual analysis of the Council Plan 2022-27, which covers the year 2024-25.
The plan contains five priority themes to help focus work to make the city a better place. These are:
Reducing Child Poverty and Inequalities
Delivering Inclusive Economic Growth
Tackling Climate Change and achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2045
Building Resilient and Empowered Communities
Designing a Modern Council
Council leader Cllr Mark Flynn explained: “We are focused on the delivery of the vision for Dundee. We are a caring city and tackling the root causes of poverty head-on is one of the biggest challenges we face, especially as we continue our recovery from the pandemic and take on the impact of the cost of living crisis on many of our citizens.
“We are working to deliver inclusive economic growth to create jobs and opportunities for all by keeping Dundee.
“We are tackling climate change and making Dundee greener, and our low emissions zone within the city centre is helping to improve air quality and reduce emissions.”.
“Resilient, empowered communities are being built through local community planning and investment in the areas of the city which need it most. Last year a total of 341 new Council and Registered Social Landlord houses were completed, once again exceeding our annual target of 200.
“This August will see the opening of the Drumgeith Community Campus, which includes a new secondary school Greenfield Academy to serve both pupils and communities by providing a modern location for a range of community, library, leisure, and sports facilities.”
An update report for 2024-25 to go before the City Governance Committee identifies areas where improvement has been reported over the last year.
These include:
Percentage of care experienced young people in positive destinations (41% increase).
Number of Dundee Citizens contributing to local community plan outcomes (39% increase).
Percentage of Council budget allocated by participatory budgeting processes (31% increase).
Number of Council and Registered Social Landlord housing completions (29% increase).
Percentage of Dundee City Council Procurement spent with Dundee based organisations (20% increase)
