Neighbourhood Capital Fund Winners Celebrate

Neighbourhood Capital Fund winners Councillor Lynne Short

Community groups from across Dundee have come together to celebrate their success in a vote for funding for local projects.

Dundee City Council’s Neighbourhood Capital Fund allocated £600,000 across six wards and was designed to put decision-making directly into the hands of local people.

Communities helped to identify priorities and shape project applications - then voted on how the capital budget should be spent to improve local spaces and facilities.

Between July and September, over 6,800 residents voted online and at pop-up events across the city, choosing which community projects should receive funding. Around 800 people were also involved in shaping the earlier part of the process.

A senior councillor is congratulating everyone who took part.

Cllr Lynne Short, deputy convener of the Neighbourhood, Housing and Communities Committee said “It’s fantastic to see that so many community projects right across the city are benefiting from this investment, and that the citizens of Dundee came out in their thousands to make their voice heard and choose what matters to them.

“I’m particularly pleased to see that the young of people of Dundee had their say in this process as these investments will continue to benefit them into the future. Around 35% of voters were young people aged 12–21, showing leadership and community spirit through schools, youth groups, and sports clubs.”

Funding was distributed based on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation across the  Lochee, Strathmartine, Coldside, Maryfield, North East and East End council wards.

This Neighbourhood Capital Fund was led by the city council’s Community Learning and Development teams.
