Can you offer a loving home? Consider Adopting with Us

Adoption, Thinking about Adoption with the council, Adoption Graphic

A special pop-up information session for people interested in providing a loving home for children and young people in the city will be held next week.

Staff from the Adoption Team and an experienced adopter will be on the lower level of the Overgate Centre on Saturday 1 November, from 1–3pm. They will be ready to talk to anyone interested in adopting with us.

This pop-up is part of a week of activity planned for Adoption Week Scotland (3-7 November), a week that raises awareness of adoption in Scotland, highlights available support, and builds connections within the adoption community.

Adoption offers children and young people who cannot live with their birth families the opportunity to grow up in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment.

We are looking for adopters who are over 21 from all walks of life. Single people, couples whether unmarried, married, or in a civil partnership, whether heterosexual, lesbian, or gay can apply. Disabled people are not excluded and sometimes experience of disability is positively welcomed.

People from all ethnic origins and religions can adopt.

What matters most is that any family with whom a child is placed is in a strong position to meet the child’s emotional, identity, health, and developmental needs.

Throughout the week, stories will be shared by those who have adopted with us to encourage people to think about adoption and what the journey and experience might look like.

Children and Families Convener Stewart Hunter said: “Every child in Dundee should grow up in a safe, loving, and caring home, and we know that can mean with an adoptive family.

"We know there are many people out there who would make great adopters but never take the next step to find out more, for a whole host of reasons.

"This pop-up is for people like that, those who want to learn more. We’re looking for adopters who are over 21, who can make space in their life and home for a child, and who are patient, flexible, and determined to make a real difference for a lifetime.

"A lot of people think there are barriers to adopting, like being too old, single, or disabled, but none of these are obstacles to becoming an adopter.

"Please do come along on Saturday, meet the team in the Overgate, have a chat, and find out more about how you can enrich a young person’s life."
