Consultation on Committee Meetings

Committee Meetings, committee meetings consultation

A consultation on changing the timing of Dundee City Council committee meetings from Monday evenings to weekdays during daytime hours has been launched today.

Members of the public are being encouraged to have their say on the proposal, alongside elected members, external members of the Children and Families Committee and other stakeholders.

The purpose of this three-week consultation is to identify general preferences and any impacts of changing the day and/or time of those committee meetings, and consider any measures that can be taken to address these impacts.

Full details of the proposal, the rationale behind it and how to take part can be found on the Council’s Consultation Hub, along with Frequently Asked Questions

Bailie Willie Sawers, depute convener of the City Governance committee, said: "Dundee City Council is one of only a few councils in Scotland that now operate evening meetings.

"The change to daytime meetings could have a number of benefits, from being more family-friendly to encouraging more people to consider standing as a Councillor.

"However, before any decisions are taken, it is essential that we as a Council understand the public’s preferences and any implications of moving to daytime meetings.

"This is particularly the case for those who have characteristics protected by law, but I would stress that we are keen to hear from anyone who has an opinion to share. So please take part, it only takes a few minutes."

Free internet access is available in all libraries, with IT support from staff, and at community centres.

Anyone needing further assistance completing the form can also contact Dundee City Council customer services on (01382) 434000.

The consultation closes on November 30.

Following the consultation, a report will be considered by the City Governance committee.
