West End Community Clean-Up takes place

Benvie Road Dundee Community Clean Up Cllr Heather Anderson Lee Mills Rubbish Waste Housing Environment Street

Council Environmental teams have this week carried out additional works in the West End area of the city as part of a Take Pride in Your City Community Clean-Up.

Residents were invited to make good use of available skips to dispose of unwanted household items and waste with staff members on hand to assist and answer questions about how to recycle and dispose of waste appropriately during the three-day initiative.

Council employees also cleared litter and debris, strimmed vegetation from buildings and fence lines, tidied up communal areas where required and carried out mechanical and manual sweeping of paths & street areas.

Climate, Net Zero & Environment Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said: “It’s vitally important we all recognise that our litter is our own responsibility.

“If we take the necessary steps to discard these items in the correct way then it goes far in keeping our outdoor spaces in a presentable condition.

“We know residents want Dundee’s parks, streets and neighbourhoods to look their best at all times.”

Depute Convener Cllr Lee Mills added: “The Take Pride in Your City campaign exists to promote positive behaviour by bringing people and partners together to take action.

“This is now the fourteenth Council-organised Community Clean-Up and they’ve become a popular addition to the Take Pride Dundee effort.

“It has been great to see local residents taking up the opportunity to get rid of their rubbish through the scheme and engage with Council staff on matters such as recycling.”

Community Clean-Ups are now a regular fixture of the ongoing Take Pride campaign and have taken place in neighbourhoods throughout Dundee since 2022 with more planned for the future.

Information about future community clean-ups is communicated directly to local residents shortly before taking place.
