2026/27 Budget and Council tax

Dundee City Council has set a revenue budget of £502 million, the largest proportion of which (49%) is planned to be spent on Children and Families Services, with the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership allocated 24%.
Council Tax will increase by 7.75% for the 2026/27 Financial Year, fixing the Band D rate at £1729.69. Almost three quarters (72%) of households in Dundee are in Bands A, B, or C and will therefore pay less than that amount.
Bailie Willie Sawers, Depute Leader of Dundee City Council said: “As a Council, we have continued to face increasingly difficult decisions in order to set a balanced budget for 2026/27 which supports communities across the city.
“We know how important so many Council services are to the public. The budget consultation process highlighted this specifically.
“Through this budget, we have struck a balance between finding the necessary savings legally required of us as a local authority while prioritising the vital services we provide to the whole of the city.
“We will also continue to invest in the city’s future and its development by helping to create jobs, supporting young people through education and delivering on economic growth.
“The Council will again substantially invest in support Dundee’s most vulnerable through cost-of-living support, new additional investment to improve the city’s roads, and will again fund city events for 2026/27.
“We have also kept the cost of primary and secondary school meal charges the same for the coming financial year and a one-off investment of £250,000 to support our efforts to improve neighbourhoods and the public realm.
“Our budget will deliver for our city and its communities by putting people at the very heart of it.”
