Dundee Spring Break Plaudit

Dundee Spring Break, LNER, UK City

Leading councillors are welcoming news that Dundee has been named the 'best city in the UK for a spring day out’.

A survey by train company LNER analysed 88 of the most populated towns and cities in the UK across a range of environmental and activity-based factors.

These include historical weather data, the amount of green and blue space, alongside land and woodland cover, and the number of walking trails in each location.

Dundee topped the poll ahead of Maidstone, Telford and Aberdeen.

Attractions featured by LNER in the city include the University of Dundee Botanic Garden, Dundee Law, Camperdown Park and V&A Dundee.

City council convener of City Growth and Infrastructure Cllr Steven Rome said: “This is a great plaudit for the City of Dundee, its transport links and its many attractions.

“As the weather improves, I hope as many locals and visitors alike take the opportunity to get outside and explore what Dundee has to offer.”

Climate, Net Zero and Environment Committee Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said: “Over 40% of Dundee is publicly accessible greenspace, making it one of the greenest cities in Scotland. Dundee’s green spaces are such an asset for the city and I am pleased that this survey recognises the quality and diversity of our outdoor attractions.”
