Excitement is building across the city for the Dundee Get Together, with further details of the event now being revealed.

Taking place in City Square on Saturday 13 June from 3pm to 6pm, the event will feature an afternoon of entertainment, activities and community celebration.

It aims to celebrate the city's vibrant cultural diversity and champion messages of kindness, tolerance and community spirit.

A colourful community parade will set off from the High School of Dundee at 3.30pm, travelling along Reform Street before arriving in City Square.

The parade will feature over 700 people from over 35 organisations showcasing the clubs, groups and organisations that help bring people together across Dundee, with spectators encouraged to line the route, join in the celebration and cheer on the participants.

After the parade, members of the public can enjoy traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing led by the Mad Ferret Band, African dancing with the One Africa Dance Group, Indian dance performances by the Bharatiya Ashram Dancers, and the chance to learn the Egwu Ukwu (Waist Dance).

Throughout the event, a range of free drop-in activities will be available for all ages. People can contribute to the "We Are Dundee" community canvas by adding their fingerprint to a colourful city skyline, share messages and reflections on the "Kindness in Dundee Looks Like" chalkboard, and decorate stones with the Dundee Rocks group.

Families can also enjoy hands-on play activities delivered by ScrapAntics’ Dundee Play Forum as part of the Celebrate! Dundee Play Festival, test their aim at Active Dundee's netball hoop challenge, face painting, Tapestry, kindness badge making with the DCA and take part in a variety of activities in the Games Garden.

A grand tapestry created by people of different faiths and beliefs from Dundee’s interfaith group will also be on display. The city hosted the  20th anniversary of Scottish Interfaith Week in 2024 where the tapestry was originally unveiled.

Free refreshments will also be available, with people encouraged to sit together and share stories with one another.

A special video commissioned for the event will be able to be viewed on the big screen highlighting some of the organisations featured and the work they do to promote kindness in the city.

The event is open to everyone, and a full accessibility guide is available.

A Dundee Kindness exhibition, created in collaboration with school pupils from across the city, will be on display throughout the weekend. The exhibition showcases the work Dundee schools do to promote equality, diversity and togetherness within their communities.

Lord Provost of Dundee, Bill Campbell, said: “The Dundee Get Together is a chance to celebrate everything that makes our city so special - our diversity, sense of community and the kindness people show every day.

"I would encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to come along, enjoy the activities and be part of a celebration that reflects the welcoming and inclusive spirit of our city."

The Dundee Get Together is also part of the Celebrate! Dundee Play Festival. Running from 11–14 June 2026, the festival will see more than 30 partners deliver over 50 free play events and activities for all ages across the city.

Taking place in more than 10 venues - from community centres and charity hubs to pubs, coffee shops, visitor attractions and Dundee City Square – the festival will transform Dundee into a city-wide celebration of play.

Sandy Greene from Celebrate! Dundee Play Festival, said: “We’re thrilled that the Dundee Get Together is joining the city’s first ever play festival. Whatever your age, culture or walk of life, play has a universal power to transform lives.

“It’s not just about watching our children having fun.  Play has the power to bring all people together, to build stronger, more inclusive communities and shaping opportunities for everyone to connect and play. So, whether you’re coming on your own or with family, friends, children or grandchildren, play is for everyone.

“We’re excited to shine a light on the many welcoming and inclusive opportunities to play right across the city, in every council ward, both during the festival and beyond, strengthening our diverse community in the long-term, and really cultivating that sense of belonging.”

A working group made up of schools, community groups and representatives from across Dundee has been working together to create the programme. Full details about the event can be found on the Council website.
