Early Results Show Positive Progress for Dundee Pupils

Children and Families Convener, Stewart Hunter is congratulating pupils on their achievements as Qualifications Scotland (QS) results are texted and posted to them today (Tuesday 4 August).

Councillor Hunter said: “Today, 3,377 young people across Dundee received their Qualifications Scotland examination results.

“I know the pupils have worked incredibly hard to prepare for these exams and achieve results that will help them plan their next steps.

“It is great to see more pupils presenting for Qualifications Scotland awards with a total of 17,113 undertaken this year, an increase from 16,428 in the previous year.

"There are some real positives in this early data, with an overall improvement in the percentage of young people in S4 and S5 gaining awards at SCQF Levels 4, 5 and 6.

“We have also seen an increase in the percentage of S6 pupils achieving Higher awards compared with their S5 results last year.

“I’m also delighted to see an increase in the number of S4 pupils gaining five or more awards at SCQF Level 4.

“The data also highlights the positive impact of young people choosing to remain in school, with many achieving improved qualification outcomes.

"I would like to congratulate every young person on their achievements.

“These outcomes are a testament to the hard work and determination of our young people, supported by their families and our dedicated school staff.

"Support is available in schools for any young person seeking advice or guidance. Each school has communicated directly with families regarding how to access this support."

All candidates will have received their results by post on Tuesday 4 August. Candidates who have activated their Qualifications Scotland accounts will also receive their results by text/email. Young people can also contact their school or college to get their results.

From 8am on results day, Qualifications Scotland will open their Candidate Advice Line on 0345 279 1000 to answer young people’s questions.

Young people can also speak to dedicated careers advisors on the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Helpline on 0808 100 8000 if they have any questions about their next steps.

The Council’s Children and Families Service is currently analysing the full set of results. A detailed report will be presented to the Education Committee later in the academic session, once the appeals process has concluded.

Notable highlights include:

• The percentage of young people in S4 gaining five or more awards at SCQF Level 4 or better increased from 59% last year to 64%.
• The percentage of young people in S6 gaining five or more awards at SCQF Level 6 or better increased from 21% last year to 23%.
• 1,196 S4 pupils achieved one or more awards at SCQF Level 5 (National 5 A-C), with 111 pupils attaining six National 5s at Grade A.
• 808 S5 pupils achieved one or more Highers at Grades A-C, and 203 pupils attained five Highers at these grades.
• 24 S4 pupils successfully achieved a Higher award, earlier than is typical.
• 285 pupils gained at least one Advanced Higher qualification.
