New Apprentices Intake

More than half a dozen new recruits have been welcomed to Dundee City Council’s pool of trades people. 

Apprentices in electrical, joinery and plastering have recently started with the council and all seven gathered today (Tuesday) at the Construction Services Clepington Road HQ. 

As has become traditional, convener of the council’s neighbourhood, housing and communities committee, Kevin Cordell, officially welcomed the new recruits.

He said: “The highest quality service and repairs that the council strives for, and the people of the city expect, can only be achieved if we continue to bring in young people with energy, enthusiasm and new ideas. 

“The trade and other skills that they can learn during their apprenticeship with the council could last them throughout their working-life and I hope that anyone who uses council buildings and other services will also feel the benefit for just as long.” 

Lynne Short, the committee’s deputy convener who was also at the event added: “I am pleased that the council is helping to create opportunities for our young people to get their first step on the employment ladder. As one of the biggest employers of trades in the city we are also showing the way for others.”
