Dundee's Sky-High Plans for Christmas

Plans for this year's Christmas in Dundee programme are taking shape, with two popular festive events returning and the potential for a drone light show.

Following the success of last year's event, the celebrations will again begin with the Dundee Christmas Switch-On on Sunday 15 November, which attracted thousands of people to the city centre in 2025 with a Christmas Market, funfair rides, musical performances, street performers, food and drink, a craft tent, and even an appearance from Santa himself!

The day will also feature the popular Dundee Santa Dash in the morning, bringing hundreds of festive fundraisers into the city centre ahead of the switch-on celebrations.

This year's switch-on could feature a new addition, with Dundee City Council issuing a tender for a drone light show. Subject to procurement, the display has the potential to provide an extra touch of festive magic to the occasion.

The festivities will continue on Sunday 29 November with the return of the Dundee Hooley, celebrating its 5th year and marking St Andrew's Day, the Dundee way, with a packed programme of music, entertainment and family-friendly activities.

With its theme this year of Dragons, the Dundee Hooley will bring the legendary story of Martin and the Dragon to life in a fun, theatrical and magical way, taking audiences on an unforgettable adventure filled with imagination and a little bit of fire!

UNESCO City of Design Dundee will once again present Dundee’s Designer Christmas Trees as part of Dundee’s Festive Celebrations. Since the project began in 2022, 17 designs will have been commissioned, with all elements of the trees and their decorations made from 100% reused or recycled materials and using multiples of an object or material. The trees will again be located next to Dundee’s Living Christmas Tree at City Churches.

Leader of Dundee City Council, Cllr Mark Flynn, said: "We're delighted to confirm this year's Christmas in Dundee programme. I know the team has been working hard to put together another fantastic festive season.

“Following the success of last year's Christmas Switch-On, we're looking forward to welcoming thousands of people back to the city centre to enjoy the celebrations and see the Christmas Tree lights switched on.

“The Dundee Hooley will once again be a highlight of the festive season, bringing people together to celebrate St Andrew's Day with music, entertainment and plenty of community spirit.

“Christmas in Dundee is also a great opportunity to support our local businesses, attractions and the many community events taking place across the city and I hope everyone enjoys everything this year has to offer."

As the Council works with partners on the full Christmas in Dundee programme, including plans for a festive market in City Square and other seasonal activities, further details will be announced in due course.
