Dundee Foster Carers Receiving Enhanced Support

The Council is launching a programme of enhanced support for foster carers and prospective new carers.

This includes a 58% increase in fostering fees, from £172 to £272 per child or young person per week, alongside existing allowances to help carers provide a loving and supportive home environment.

From 14 September, foster carers will receive the following total weekly amounts:

• 0–4 years: £449.42

• 5–10 years: £478.45

• 11–15 years: £486.32

• 16–18 years: £555.09

The campaign recognises the vital role played by foster carers and aims to recruit more carers across the city. Increasing the number of local foster carers will help more children and young people live with local families and continue attending their local schools.

Fostering with the Council comes with a range of benefits, including competitive rates of pay, comprehensive training, Leisure Active memberships at corporate rates and ongoing support from a dedicated team.

Speaking about the enhanced support package, Depute Convener of Children and Families, Cllr Roisin Smith, said:

"I'm delighted to announce this range of support and financial uplift for our foster carers, demonstrating our commitment to supporting them and recognising the rising cost of living.

"They carry out an extremely valuable, important and rewarding role, providing a loving home and helping children and young people live the life they deserve in a safe and supportive environment.

"We continue to seek more people in the city to become foster carers or adoptive parents. A range of fostering options is available to suit different lifestyles, including interim care, short breaks, emergency care and long-term fostering.

"If you can offer a child or young person a safe, secure and loving home where they can flourish and enjoy their childhood, please consider becoming a foster carer."
