Community Council Elections | Dundee City Council

Dundee City Council is keen to encourage nominations of Community Councillors to sit on established Community Councils and to receive petitions from local communities to establish new Community Councils.

Information packs and nomination forms can be accessed in community centres and libraries across the city from Monday 4th August and can be downloaded further down this page.

What is the purpose of a Community Council?

The general purpose of a Community Council is to represent the views of the community they represent and to take action in the interests of that community.

Act as a voice for local people
Actively seek views and concerns in the area
Make public bodies aware of local needs and opinions

Community Councils are voluntary organisations, made up of people who have an interest in the wellbeing of their community.

What are the boundaries of Community Council areas across the city?

There is currently provision for 18 Community Councils in Dundee. Three are active: Broughty Ferry, City Centre and Harbour and West End. You can view the boundaries on this map (2.3MB PDF)

How can I find out about becoming a Community Councillor?

If you wish to become a Community Councillor in one of the three active Community Councils, you must have a nomination form completed and returned to the Returning Officer.

What is the process to establish a Community Council?

Legislation allows for every local community in Scotland to petition to establish a Community Council in their area. Twenty individuals from a Community Council area are required to sign a petition.

The period for nominations begins Monday 4th August and the deadline for the return of all nominations is Friday 26th September, 2025.
