What safety measures are in place in my multi-storey?
All Council multi-storey blocks have a hard-wired smoke detector in each flat, with battery back-up. If you have any problems with your smoke detector, call 01382 434343.
Fire Safety Doors have been installed to every flat and within communal areas.
Regular building checks are carried out by Dundee City Council to ensure any related fire safety/risk is dealt with urgently.
What safety checks are carried out?
A rigorous annual risk assessment is carried out by the Council and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Furthermore, regular checks are carried out by Dundee City Council and SFRS to ensure all blocks are of the highest standard and that any issues identified are addressed immediately.
What do I do if there is a fire in my block?
The fire evacuation strategy for your building is ‘Stay Put’.
‘Stay Put’ is the following approach:
- When a fire occurs within a flat, the occupants alert others in the flat, make their way out of the building and call Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SFRS) via 999.
- If a fire starts in the common areas, anyone in these areas should make their way out of the building and call SFRS.
- All other people in the building not directly affected by the fire would be expected to ‘stay put’ and remain in their flat unless directed to leave by SFRS or the Police.
- Any person not directly affected by fire or smoke can leave the building if they wish, although doing so could place them at greater risk.
What is a Single Building Assessment?
A Single Building Assessment (SBA) is a detailed fire-safety review of the whole building. It looks at the external walls, including cladding, and the shared areas inside the building. The assessment identifies any fire-safety concerns, any temporary measures needed to keep residents safe, and any longer-term work required.
Will my building undergo a Single Building Assessment?
Yes, all Multi Storey Developments in Dundee will have a Single Building Assessment Carried out. Dundee City Council will contact you when this is due to commence.
What can I do to keep safe?
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is available to visit residents and discuss fire safety in the home.
