Parent Services Development Work and Groups
Parent Services is part of the Early Years Team in the Education Department. Two full-time Parent Services Development Officers, Linda Dempster and Dawn Banks are employed to support the development and delivery of services for parents with children under 5 years of age. The Parent Services Development Officers support staff in their work with families through mentoring, developing and delivering training. The development officers also directly deliver a range of services for Dundee families with young children.
Services are wide ranging, change and evolve in response to need. A few examples of the types of work undertaken include:
Support Groups - for example, Twins and Multiples Support Group, Kinship Carers Support Group and Jigsaw Group (a support group for parents with children between birth and five years who have additional needs)
PEEP Groups (Parent Early Education Partnership) - promoting the role of parents and carers as their child’s first and most important educator. The PEEP programme focuses on how to make the most of learning opportunities in everyday life - listening, talking, playing and sharing books. PEEP groups take place in a variety of community venues across the city and are available to all Dundee parents and carers with children from birth to five years.
