Am I entitled to any Council Tax Reduction?

Council Tax Reduction is means tested, so the amount that you will be entitled to depends on your circumstances and of those who live with you.

You may qualify for Council Tax Reduction if you are on a low income and your savings (joint savings if you have a partner) are less than £16,000.  However, Pensioners who are in receipt of Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit) may still qualify despite having more than £16,000 capital.

If you think you may be entitled to Council Tax reduction, you should claim as soon as possible. You can apply for Council Tax Reduction or report a change of circumstances on our online forms page.  You can also apply by calling our Customer Services team on 01382 431205.

When an application for Council Tax Reduction is submitted, an assessment of your income, savings and capital, liability for Council Tax and the financial circumstances of any other person in your household will determine if you qualify for any reduction.

Your circumstances may mean that you do not qualify for the full amount which you are required to pay in Council Tax however you may be entitled to some assistance.
