Investigation of Work Related Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences

The purpose of investigating reportable injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences is to:

  • identify causes and measures required by the employer or self-employed to prevent recurrence;
  • take enforcement action where appropriate.

We will:

  • respond as soon as possible to notifications of fatalities and incidents posing imminent risk to health and safety.
  • investigate within 48 hours accident notifications indicating significant breaches of legislation.

RIDDOR is the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995.

Employers, the self-employed and those in control of premises must report specified workplace incidents.
