How Your Rent is Spent

Every year the Council sets its council house rents and service charges for the coming year. The rent set is based on the cost of running the service and any new legislation and information gathered from consultations with elected members, tenants, and their representatives.

This process starts with the annual "How Your Rent is Spent" seminar, where Dundee City Council explains how rents are set and gives tenants an opportunity to tell the Council about their priorities for the Housing Service.

This year's event is planned to held in August 2025, between 10am to 1pm at the Steeple Church, Nethergate, Dundee. Exact date to be confirmed.

Event agenda:

  • Provide tenants with information about what their rent pays for.
  • Raise awareness of how rent levels are set.
  • Hear from Dundee Federation of Tenants' Associations, Construction Services & Dundee's Safety and Alarm Response Centre.
  • Discuss with tenants what their priorities are.

Running alongside this event will be an online survey, where tenants were asked for views on several priorities, so that it's clear what is most important to customers. In addition, should a participant had a priority which is not on the list below, this can be added to the ‘other’ box, stating what the priority is and ranking as they have the others.

Survey will be made LIVE from August 4th 2025 and conclude on August 29th 2025. Links to all the information required to take part will be in the table below prior to the start date.

Leaving contact details is an essential part of the consultation process, as it will allow Dundee City Council to manage how it conducts surveys such as this whilst keeping participants informed about results, future events and consultations. Later in the year further consultation on the proposed rent levels for 2026/27 will take place.

The outcome of this survey and the rent consultation will be reported to Elected Members in January 2026, when the final decision on the rent level for the next year will be agreed.
