Braeview Academy and Craigie High School

Dundee City Council are consulting on the proposal to close both Braeview Academy and Craigie High School at the end of academic year 2023/24. These schools would be replaced by a single new secondary school and community learning campus opening in August 2024. The proposed location for the new campus is Drumgeith Road.

The new school would have a catchment area covering the whole of Braeview Academy’s current catchment, together with the portion of Craigie High School’s current catchment that lies north of the Arbroath Road (A92). The portion of Craigie High School’s current catchment that lies south of the Arbroath Road (A 92) would transfer to Grove Academy.

Full details of this proposal are available here.

The map below shows the location of the new school and its proposed catchment, together with the proposed amended catchment for Grove Academy from August 2024.

The 2020 Review of the Service Estate report confirmed that the overall condition of both Braeview Academy and Craigie High School was poor. The creation of a new, state-of-the-art secondary school/community learning campus in the east of Dundee will significantly improve the educational experience offered to pupils and their families. If the proposal is approved, in 2024, around 1,500 pupils from some of Dundee’s most deprived areas will move from poor condition schools to good (A rated) conditions.

A new learning campus will have a positive impact on the motivation and aspirations of the pupils, leading to increased attainment and improved post-school outcomes. A modern digital learning environment will support learners and promote skills for learning, life and work. The size of the proposed school will allow it to provide a significantly broader curriculum offering greater pupil choice. The school will build on partnerships with Dundee and Angus College, Michelin Skills Centre and Innovation Parc, and Dundee Schools Music Theatre.

Dundee City Council will also work jointly with Dundee & Angus College to create an Education Centre, within the new campus, for young people with significant and complex additional support needs.
