The teams within the Chief Executive’s work to add value to services across the Council, by developing a corporate and customer focus and supporting services to achieve local and national policy priorities. We encourage learning and promote best practice, working with services to cultivate a positive and innovative culture to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of all our services as well as co-ordinating joint working between services and partners.

The key activities that are undertaken within the Chief Executive’s Service are split across three teams:

Other Services

The Chief Executive’s service is also responsible for a number of other functions.  These include:

  • ensuring the Council has policies, procedures and systems for managing and learning from complaints, and reporting to Committee on these
  • carrying out policy research and drafting briefings and reports for the Chief Executive and elected members
  • drafting of responses to consultation documents, Bills etc where this requires collation of comments from across the Council and no strategic service leading the area of work
  • providing support to corporate working groups and reviews
  • promoting and assisting with applications for external awards
  • supporting the Council's commitments in specific policy areas such as the Armed Forces Community Covenant, the Gaelic Language Plan and Fair Trade

National Services

National Entitlement Card:Programme Office is also within this service. Dundee City Council is the lead council for the development of the Scottish National Entitlement Card (NEC) Programme. The NEC Programme Office team work from Dundee City Council with the Scottish Government, all 32 local Councils as well as organisations such as Young Scot, the Registrar General; and Transport Scotland in the development of a single card using smartcard technology that will provide the public with an easy way to access services.

Scottish Cities Alliance 
From November 2022, the Chief Executive’s Service now also hosts the Scottish Cities Alliance team. The Scottish Cities Alliance is a collaboration between Scotland’s eight cities - Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth, and Stirling - and the Scottish Government. Established in 2011 to advance the Agenda for Cities, the goal is to build a stronger economic future for Scotland by working in partnership to attract capital investment, jobs and deliver sustainable economic growth.
