I WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT SERVICE PLAN 2004-2007

 

There was submitted Report No 825-2003 by the Head of Waste Management seeking approval of the Waste Management Department Service Plan for 2004-2007.

 

The Committee agreed that the Waste Management Department Service Plan for 2004-2007 be approved.

 

II ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND TRADING STANDARDS SERVICE PLAN 2004-2007

 

There was submitted Report No 108-2004 by the Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards seeking approval of the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Plan for 2004-2007.

 

The Committee agreed that the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Plan for 2004-2007 be approved.

 

III TENDERS RECEIVED BY CITY ENGINEER ? BALDOVIE BUNKER, ALTERATIONS

 

There was submitted Report No 32-2004 by the City Engineer giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts:-

 

(a) BALDOVIE BUNKER ALTERATIONS ? NEW OPENING IN WALL

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by H & F Specialist Services amounting to 3,793.00 to which required to be added allowances of 429.00 for contingencies, 380.00 for professional fees and 120.00 for Planning Supervisor fees, making a total expenditure of 4,722.00.

 

(b) BALDOVIE BUNKER ALTERATIONS ? FILL AND SLAB

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Dundee Plant Co Ltd amounting to 15,362.00 to which required to be added allowances of 1,737.00 for contingencies, 1,535.00 for professional fees and 480.00 for Planning Supervisor fees, making a total expenditure of 19,114.00.

 

IV TENDERS RECEIVED ? ALTERATIONS TO OFFICE AND RECEPTION AREA ? 8 CITY SQUARE

 

There was submitted Report No 79-2004 by the City Architectural Services Officer giving details of the offer submitted for alterations to office and reception area at 8 City Square.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services amounting to 9,800.00 to which required to be added allowances of 1,700.00 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 11,500.00.

 

V LOO OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2003

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN26-2004 reporting that the Council had been awarded the Loo of the Year 2003 National Award for Scotland for its Accessible Toilet in Queen Street, Broughty Ferry.

 

It was also reported that the public toilets at Seagate Bus Station, Castle Street and Queen Street, Broughty Ferry had been recognised as a Commended Winner along with four other Scottish local authorities for consistently high standards of cleanliness and condition. Since Dundee's first involvement in 1996/97, Council attendants had consistently achieved the highest standards of cleanliness. Each toilet also received an Overall Grade Award.

 

The Committee congratulated the department and the attendants on their achievements and presentations were made to the staff for each category of award.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted item of business on the grounds that this would involve the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 3, 6 and 9 of Part 1 of Schedule 7(A) to the above Act.

 

VI CIVIC GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 1982 ? SECTION 87(1) ? BUILDINGS IN NEED OF REPAIR

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN36-2004 reporting that a notice had been served on the owner of a property requiring works to be carried out.

 

The Committee agreed that the Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards be authorised to carry out the works should the owner not comply within the time allowed in the notice.

 

VII DISPOSAL OF ASH

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN27-2004 reporting that the Head of Waste Management, after consultation with the Convener of the Environmental Services and Sustainability Committee and spokespersons from other groups had authorised the entering of a contract for the disposal of ash from DERL.
