I DUNDEE CONTRACT SERVICES FINANCIAL OPERATING STATEMENT AND OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE FORTHE THREE MONTHS ENDED 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2006

 

There was submitted Report No 635-2006 by the Head of Finance and Director of Dundee Contract Services appraising the Committee on the financial position and operational performance of Dundee Contract Services (DCS) for the six months ended 30th September, 2006.

 

The Committee noted:-

 

(i) the current financial position and operational performance of DCS;

 

(ii) that DCS should exceed the statutory requirement of break even for the third year of the current three year rolling period that commenced at the start of financial year 2004/2005; and

 

(iii) that based on the six months results the projected annual surplus, with appropriate adjustments, estimated to be in the region of 595,000 exceeded the surplus included in the City Council's approved 2006/2007 Revenue Budget by 120,000.

 

II PLAY AREA IMPROVEMENTS 2006-2007

 

There was submitted Report No 624-2006 by the Director of Dundee Contract Services seeking Committee approval for Dundee Contract Services to carry out a phased programme of Play Area Improvements for 2006/2007.

 

The Committee agreed to:-

 

(i) the planned programme of improvements to five play areas in the City for 2006/2007 noted below:-

 

Whorterbank, St Matthew's Lane, Drumlithie Place, Whitfield Central Core (West), and Lawton Road; and

 

(ii) the work being carried out by Dundee Contract Services at an estimated cost of 162,600.

 

III SUPPLY OF EX-DEMONSTRATION TRIPLE MOWER 2006-2007

 

There was submitted Report No 616-2006 by the Director of Dundee Contract Services requesting Committee approval to purchase an ex-demonstration triple mower.

 

The Committee agreed that the undernoted supplier and price for the ex-demonstration triple mower be accepted.

IV PUBLIC OPEN SPACES AND HOUSING LANDSCAPE AREAS - ENVIRONMENTAL AREAS

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN366-2006 informing the Committee that it was proposed to carry out environmental improvements at a number of sites in the city.

 

The following sites had been selected:-

Taybank Floral Display

Arbroath Road Seating Area

Mill Park Housing Open Spaces

Law Hill

 

The estimated cost of the works was 50,000 and would be met from the provision of 60,000 allowed for Public Open Spaces under the Department's Capital Estimates for 2006/2007.

 

The Committee agreed that the works be carried out by Dundee Contract Services at an estimated cost of 50,000.

 

V LAND SERVICES FORESTRY SECTION - STAFF ACCOMMODATION

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN367-2006 informing the Committee that the accommodation for the Forestry Section of Dundee Contract Services at Camperdown Park was no longer adequate or met current health and safety requirements. It was proposed to relocate the staff into the former Stables Office which would require to be upgraded to provide suitable accommodation.

 

The total estimated expenditure of 45,000 would be met, in part from the provision of 20,000 allowed for Forestry Staff Accommodation in the Department's Capital Plan 2006-2009 and the balance of 25,000 from revenue surpluses generated by Dundee Contract Services, Contracting Activities during the current financial year.

 

The Committee agreed to the works and that they be carried out by Dundee Contract Services at an estimated cost of 45,000.
