II SHORT COURSE GRANTS - REVISED ARRANGEMENTS FOR ACCESS TO SMALL GRANTS FOR MUSICAL ACTIVITIES

There was submitted Agenda Note AN204-2008 advising the Committee that following the merger of the former Leisure and Arts and Communities Departments, a review of the several grant funds administered by the Leisure and Communities Department had been undertaken, and a more consistent approach to the advertising, eligibility criteria and assessment processes of the various funds had been put in place.

A consequence of this review was that the previous Short Course Grants, which provided ten grants of 50 was going to be absorbed into the Dundee Musicians' Award fund in April 2009.

The Short Course fund would continue in its current form for the remainder of the 2008/2009 financial year. Thereafter, the criteria of the Dundee Musicians' Award would apply, and this information, together with the current deadlines for the award, would be posted on the www.dundeecity.gov.uk website.

The Committee noted accordingly.

III PURCHASE OF OBJECT MOUNTS FOR McMANUS GALLERIES AND MUSEUM

There was submitted Report No 535-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities detailing the proposals received for the supply and delivery of object mounts for the McManus Galleries and Museum, and requesting a decision on acceptance of the same.

The Committee approved the acceptance of the quotation submitted by Rutherford and Wheeler in the amount of 43,335.

The covers were specifically designed for heat retention for energy conservation purposes.

The Committee agreed that the offer be accepted, having noted that the total expenditure of 11,735 would be met from the allocation within the Leisure and Communities 2008/2009 Capital Budget.

V APSE HEALTHY COMMUNITY ACCOLADES 2008

There was submitted Agenda Note AN208-2008 asking the Committee to note that the Leisure and Communities Department's Youth Sport Development Project was selected as one of the finalists in the Outstanding Achievement in Sports, Leisure and Culture category, sponsored by Health Scotland, for their work in the community. The result of the competition was announced at the APSE Conference at the Hilton, Dunkeld on 6th November, 2008 which was attended by the Depute Convener for the Leisure, Arts and Communities Committee, Councillor Asif and the officer who let the project within the department.
