The Dundee Climate Leadership Group have appointed Ronnie Quinn as its new external Chair with Dundee City Council Councillor Heather Anderson made Vice-Chair of the Group.

The Climate Leadership Group provides active leadership on Dundee’s net-zero challenge, leveraging expertise from across the city to engage and inspire collective ownership as well as a shared commitment to tackling climate change.

The Group was previously chaired by Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal of the University of Dundee and Council Leader John Alexander as the Vice-Chair.

Newly appointed Chair of the Group Ronnie Quinn has a long history of working in energy and low-carbon sectors, as well as holding senior positions in private, public and local government organisations.

Dundee Climate Leadership Group Chair Ronnie Quinn said: “I am really looking forward to working with the group so that together we can work towards developing strategies to promote energy efficient infrastructure, learning from what has been achieved so far and monitoring, evaluating and adapting to ensure long-term sustainability for Dundee.”

Vice-Chair of the Group Dundee City Council Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Committee Convener Heather Anderson said: “I am excited to take up this role as Vice-Chair and look forward to working with the city’s many committed partners in tackling the climate emergency from here in Dundee.

“We have a host of very capable institutions throughout the city who are harnessing their talent and expertise in a channelled way to address climate change issues on our local level.

“A lot of great work is being carried out in Dundee towards our shared goals, however it’s vital that we continue to work together to achieve our shared low carbon and net zero targets, minimising the effects of climate change as much as we can.”

Dundee previously declared a climate emergency in 2019, recognising the serious and accelerating environmental, social and economic challenges faced by climate change.

Making Dundee a sustainable city is a key priority for the group and the city will pass through a period of transition from a carbon-based economy to one that plays a leading role on Scotland’s goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 or sooner.

Dundee City Council, Abertay University, Creative Dundee, Dundee & Angus College, DC Thomson, Hillcrest Homes, Michelin Innovation Parc, NHS Tayside, Robertson Group, Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks, Scottish Water, SGN, Transition Dundee, and the University of Dundee make up the Dundee Climate Leadership Group.
