WORK on two pilot projects in Dundee trialling alternative insulation options and rewiring, both without the need to temporarily re-house residents, could come a step closer next week.

Tenders for £169, 772 for various measures at two properties in Tullideph Road and £25,500 for a full rewire of a house in Kirkton will be considered by the neighbourhood regeneration, housing and estate management committee.

Mark Flynn committee convener said: “We are always striving to find more effective and efficient ways of carrying out essential repairs and upgrades to council properties.

“But we are also mindful that we are dealing with people’s homes and lives, so these pilots were previously agreed to try out different ways of doing things that could be less disruptive, while still making a positive impact for our tenants on their energy bills and on tackling climate change.”

As well as insulation, the works in Tullideph, will include rewiring, radiator and window replacement and ventilation, which are due to start in March and be finished by early summer.

The Kirkton pilot will involve a single occupied house, to establish the best way of carrying out an electrical upgrade/rewiring, including the removal of existing redundant electrical installations and replacement with new electrical services and installations, such as lighting, power, cooker, appliances, fans, shower, heat and smoke detection. Work is scheduled to start later this month and finish within weeks.

Both contracts are recommended to go to the council’s construction services division.

The neighbourhood regeneration, housing and estate management committee meets on Monday (January 22).
