2026 Garden Waste Permits

Dundee householders are being encouraged to renew their garden waste permits for 2026 following the opening of the permit ordering system.

Residents can now sign up well in advance of the first collections which are scheduled to take place in March. The total cost of a permit is £50.00 per bin covering 20 allocated collections to eligible households across the year and works out at £2.50 per collection.

Customers who previously opted-in to the scheme for 2025 will receive invitations either by letter or email to re-apply for 2026 collections. Reminders will also take place through the Council’s Bin App, website and social media channels.

Climate, Net Zero and Environment Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said: “Residents have shown they are fully committed to recycling their garden waste materials and this has been demonstrated by the widespread uptake of permits since the introduction of the Garden Waste Permits scheme.

“The Council provides a convenient and regular kerbside collection service for householders who opt-in to having their green waste collected and recycled for them.

“We want to maximise the city’s recycling efforts and a high take-up of permits from the public contributes greatly towards achieving this.”

Members of the public can always dispose of their garden waste free of charge at either Baldovie or Riverside recycling centres.

The garden waste collected from residents is used to create PAS 100 quality-certified Discovery Compost at the Riverside Composting facility, which is then available for purchase by local gardeners, community groups, and farmers.

Home composting bins, with a 330-litre unit capacity, are available directly from the Council, or can be bought in many retail outlets.

Further information, frequently asked questions and the online permit application form can all be found on the Dundee City Council website.
