Dundee School Archives Project launched

An eight-year school records project researched and compiled by Dundee City Archives employees and volunteers is set to be launched.
The project brings together over 120 collections of Dundee’s schools past and present into a guide, catalogues and indexes, making one of the most requested set of records in the archives more accessible to the public.
The Dundee Schools Guide gives a potted history of all schools in Dundee along with photographs and key information on each school.
Catalogues of the records available, which are popular with family historians, local historians and other researchers, have been published online for the first time. Records can be viewed by visiting the archives searchroom at 14 City Square – see the Council’s website for more information.
School admission registers up to 1924 have been indexed as part of the project and can be viewed online via the Friends of Dundee City Archives website or by contacting the City Archives.
A free-to-attend launch event called ‘Cataloguing the Classroom: The Dundee School Archives Project’ organised by Friends of Dundee City Archives will take place on Saturday 9th May between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. This event will explain more about the project, what is available and how you can use the resources. Spaces should be reserved ahead of time by visiting the EventBrite website.
The Dundee Schools Archive Project can be accessed through the Dundee City Council website, or by visiting the archives at 14 City Square, please email archives@dundeecity.gov.uk or phone 01382 434494 to make an appointment.
Please note that records that contain personal data are closed for 100 years, please see the Dundee City Council website or contact us for more information on how to access these records.
