LOCAL PEOPLE are being offered the chance to help shape how more than £1m will be spent on one of Dundee’s best loved open spaces.

A total of £1.5m from the UK Government’s Pride in Place Fund will be used to deliver significant investment in Camperdown Park.

Mark Flynn leader of Dundee City Council said:“A comprehensive programme of community engagement will take place for much of the rest of this year because we want to make sure that we get as many people’s views as possible.

“Whatever final shape the improvements take they will help to boost inclusive access, improve health and wellbeing and strengthen climate resilience and biodiversity.

“I am sure that they will have a positive effect on everyone in the city.”

The consultation will focus on improvements that look towards revitalising the main visitor areas following Dundee-themed concepts like maritime heritage, industry and woodland storytelling inspired by Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley.

Discussions will take place around comprehensive improvements, which could include:

  • renewal of the park’s main play zones, including installation of a landmark feature and equipment suitable for all abilities;
  • upgrades to park entrances, with new signage and wayfinding to help both local people and visitors to access and easily navigate the park and key facilities; and
  • futureproofing of infrastructure, with potential regeneration of utilities, connectivity and access routes to support community events and long-term park sustainability.

The first phase of a three-step consultation programme will take place online via a questionnaire, which will be open throughout May. Further face to face activity will take place over the summer.

Dundee City Council was awarded £1.5m from the UK Government’s Pride in Place Fund to support improvements to community and public spaces. The programme is aimed at revitalising communities through long-term, locally driven investment.

Once consultation and designs have been finalised a tender report will be considered by councillors in early 2027 to approve the plans, with work due to completed at Camperdown later that year.

The questionnaire is open from today (May 11) for the rest of the month and can be accessed at: Camperdown Park Consultation - Dundee City Council
