Whether you are a council tenant, rent from a social landlord (such as a housing association) or your landlord is in the private sector, help is available if you should get behind in your rent.
Falling behind with your rent could ultimately mean you losing your home, so it is important to get advice as soon as possible.

Council tenants
If you are a Dundee City Council tenant and are experiencing difficulties with paying your rent on time, please refer to our page on problems paying rent Rent Collection | Dundee City Council and contact the Rent Collection Team straight away on 01382 307300.
They can help you and may refer you to our Welfare Rights Team who can also offer advice on rent arrears and debt counselling support. Social and private landlords
If you are a tenant of social or private landlord and have rent arrears, you should speak to your landlord/tenancy officer or a money advisor or solicitor as soon as possible to find out what options you have and how to deal with your landlord. The Council Advice Services Team can also give you independent and confidential advice if you are facing debt problems or need advice on welfare benefits. Discretionary Housing Payments
If your Housing Benefit or Universal Credit Housing Costs doesn’t cover all your rent and you are having difficulty paying the shortfall, you can apply online for Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP). Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs)

Brooksbank Centre and Services
Brooksbank Centre and Services offers free and confidential advice on debt and benefits. They can help you with a range of issues, including benefit checks and debt management. Appointments are held at Brooksbank Centre (Pitairlie Road, Mid Craigie, Dundee, DD4 8DG) between 9am and 5pm. If you need an evening appointment, they can arrange this for you. Dundee Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)
Dundee CAB provides free, impartial, and confidential advice on a range of issues, including benefits, debt, housing, and consumer problems.
