Home to School Transport

Dundee City Council wish to promote the independence and well-being of all children and young people through a range of travel options.  All children and young people should be encouraged to follow a healthy lifestyle including walking a reasonable distance, where possible, to school.

The ASN Travel Team, with collaboration from schools, have devised their Independent Travel Team to build confidence in children and young people so that they feel safe and supported when travelling from home to school on their own or with their peers:

Statutory guidance from the Department for Education states that Parents/Carers have a responsibility to ensure that their child/young person attend school; including making travel arrangements to and from home to school.

Dundee City Council may provide travel assistance if the child/young person has additional support needs or a recognised medical condition - visible or hidden - which might affect their ability to walk or travel by public transport, whether they are accompanied or not.  

Parents/Carers have a responsibility to ensure their child/young person attends school, including providing any travel arrangements.  Mainstream pupils can apply for a National Bus Travel Concession Scheme for Young People which allows free travel on local and national bus routes.  Anyone aged between 5-21 years can apply.
